Tau Stealth Suits
28mm
Warhammer 40k

With all this talk about 40k, I figured I'd upload these shots of some stuff I did a few years ago (they were posted on Warseer under my Mr. Excitement name).

These are Tau Stealth Suits airbrushed in a soft edge camo pattern-- something you don't normally see in 28mm...

Tamiya acrylics, weathered with oils, Bragdon and Tamiya powders.

Thanks! The color scheme came about after viewing the camo on German tanks in the latter stages of WW2.

This is giving me ideas, I've got 3 stealth suits myself to paint.

Yeah, I was thinking, even without the Stealth tech turned on, shouldn't the suits be as stealthy as possible anyway? The standard black would seem to be kinda obvious, so this idea was born. Of course, different camo for different environments, but that applies to anything.

Did you used decals for the numbers/logo's?
Or just painted on?

Love the detail of the cameras :o

I used the decals, laid down with Gunze Mr. Mark Softer and Mr. Mark Setter-- that's why they blend so well. I use that stuff on *everything*. ;)

Yeah, I'd also like to try airbrushing some minis.

I'm always surprised more ppl don't do it. I know GW's airbrush couldn't really do the job (too wide spray pattern), but a true detail airbrush is no problem.

For me, handbrushing GW infantry just puts on that personal touch on each and every mini I guess. But as my experience (and current free time) I guess trying out airbrushing would get the job done more quickly.

I mean airbrushing in the context of how I did it with small details and camouflage being airbrushed. You're right that just hosing down the whole thing isn't as nice as handbrushing-- but if you use the airbrush *like* a handbrush, you can do some crazy things-- all while making each figure individual but being a part of the greater army. Of course, it's also much easier to airbrush something like the Stealth Suits than it would trying to paint more organic forms (IG guys, etc.) on such a small scale. I'm totally handbrushing that. lol

Very nicely done, especially for that scale!
