This is just about the most awesome Astray I have ever seen. You did an amazing job with this. Just... Wow.

Thanks! It's harder to see what I did with the metal texturing in the picture. I'll put up a close-up. Making the red areas have some texture to better stand out against the smooth white paint was an interesting exercise... lol

That would be really interesting... I do have to admit that I haven't really thought of weathering anything that isn't gray or white. How terribly small minded of me... But I am largely impressed with what you have done. Honestly, this is some of the best work I've seen.

Thanks again-- I really appreciate it. I posted another picture that hopefully better shows off what I was trying to do with the textures.

No problem! I really like what you have done. I'd like to try it sometime with my completed kits that I have. It's going to be an interesting experiance! :)

Awesome, I'm looking forward to seeing what you produce. With the metallic thing, the key is to never actually use metallic paints ("metallic red", etc.). Instead, do a base coat of chrome or silver or whatever and put a clear color over it (red, blue, whatever). Give it a shot and see what you think. :-)

I've heard that around, and it's nice to know that that is the thing to do! However, what is your opinion about gold? I have the MG Unicorn, and his V fin (when open) is gold on the inside. I was curious if I could use this [link] without getting horrible results (I'm rather fond of the pale gold because I really don't like gold in most cases), or is the silver/chrome layer then a sort of yellow on top a better idea?

I prefer the silver/ chrome with yellow idea as it just really pops and will be pretty anime accurate. I have the paint you're linking to and while it looks good for what it is, you may not feel it looks good on the UC. The big thing with metallic paints like that gold is to try to airbrush them-- brush painting them never seems to do them justice. Hope this helps!
